Week 3

Guest Speaker

The District Teacher Leader of Curriculum and Innovation for SD63 was a guest speaker for our class. I liked the different strategies offered of implementing technology into classroom for all grades, as I find it difficult of ways for myself to think of how early years can interact with technology appropriately. I really liked the use of greenscreens in the classroom, as well as Minecraft Education, as I think they would really interest students.

Artificial Intelligence

It was interesting to have the opportunity to look through provincial resources and lesson plans for implementing AI into the classroom. It was nice to see that there were materials for school boards, teachers, students, and parents, offering guidelines to everyone in the education system. However, when we were looking through lesson plans on the curriculum website during our breakout room, I noticed some lessons that I would personally not use within my classroom. We looked into a lesson about creating land acknowledgments. It asked for the class to use AI to create a land acknowledgement, a bad land acknowledgment, and a place specific land acknowledgment, investigating how AI was useful for this activity. My personal thoughts are that AI should not be used for land acknowledgments, as it is a very personal statement, and helps us position our identity in comparison to the land. I do think there could be appropriate lessons to use AI in, however it was not this one.
